October 18 , 2006

I am looking to work at a cutting edge studio where I can make the most of my skills and, equally important, develop new skills.  I have extensive training in fine arts and this background gives me a solid foundation to build new skill sets upon.  I learn very fast and I work very fast.  I’ve been doing caricatures for 10 years at theme parks and events and the speed and concentration required to draw 20  full faces per hour has helped me to work faster and more efficiently in other media.

I run my own business booking artists for events and doing freelance work and I get a lot of satisfaction in working for myself but after 6+ years of that I’ve realized I’m not satisfying my artistic goals.   I want to tell stories.  Although I’ve primarily focused on drawing and painting, I also realize the single image is not the best means to telling a story.  I want to be part of creating an entire world.  Learning new skills, working as part of a team and finishing any project is satisfying but games add another important aspect, being able to see your work enjoyed by others.  I think games are the most immersive and the best storytelling media available.

I take classes at studios and workshops all over So Cal and I teach figure drawing and caricatures.  I’ve also been posting current work at:  http://mindofanartist.blogspot.com/

I would be happy to demo for you in person.

Sincerely yours,

Don Flaws
